New Product Launch – The Basics

Nearly everyone dreams of a big idea for a new gadget from a new product for the mass market. It used to be much easier for small businesses to introduce new products than it is today. A few years ago a small company could start with a new product or idea with retailers in the region, first to build up the local customer base and then fan out across the region, nation or world. But the landscape has changed dramatically with retail chains with thousands of great items on the market today do not change. In the past 15 years, countless smaller chains and independent operators have either been swallowed by their larger competitors, or simply went bankrupt because they could not compete with the giants. This makes it much harder for small businesses, their products on the market because a) there are fewer retailers approach and b) there are thousands of companies competing for the attention of fewer buyers.

Twenty years ago, trade shows can often be an inexpensive way to a new product to showcase thousands of potential buyers, but as the retail exhibition was a wave of mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. Many salons who saw the operations of small and medium used meet their participation and reduce many of them just completely disappeared.

What this means is that, yes, it can be difficult to launch a new product for the mass market, but it also means that the company hit the big time a lot faster today than in the past. So what’s the secret to sell Wal-Mart and other major retailers? For the novice, the answer is that there is no simple answer, is a product launch to the mass market is not for the faint of heart, but it can be done. The answer lies in your homework:

Know your business, how are you going to make a product and how will you sell? Do you have the capacity (production and finance) to meet for the mass market?
Knowing your product is the difference between your product stand out from the competition? What makes it so unique? What is the special appeal?
Do you show your retailer where the product does not fit into the store and how you can be there? Research your destination provider to look for them in new products? What their review for new suppliers?
Know your customers to buy your product is and why are they buying?
Know how your marketing plan you will spread the word about your product to your customers?

Do you know the answers to these questions to help prepare you and your company to successfully launch your new product for the mass market.
