From RCR Wireless:
While America’s cell-phone bandit may be the best known mobile-phone subscriber in the world, and consumers in Japan and Korea may have a corner on the coolest wireless apps on the planet, word on the street is Czechs-from teens to thirtysomethings-are the most crazed cell-phone users on Earth…
39 percent cite the mobile as their favorite technological device;
89 percent don’t leave their phone turned off for more than three hours;
36 percent think a mobile phone says as much about a person as their car;
67 percent would return home for a forgotten mobile;
34 percent would return for a forgotten wallet;
62 percent have flirted over mobile phones at least once;
12 percent have answered their phone during sex.

More teens and young adults are instant messaging than email nowadays.
From InternetWeek:
Study: IM Surpasses Email Among Teens, Young Adults; The majority of teens and young adults use instant messaging more than email, and an increasing number of people across age groups are sending IMs from their mobile phones, a survey from America Online Inc. found.

The majority of teens and young adults use instant messaging more than email, and an increasing number of people across age groups are sending IMs from their mobile phones, a survey released Thursday from America Online Inc. found? Two-thirds of teens and young adults between the ages of 13 and 21 said they use instant messaging more than email, which is up from 49 percent last year, AOL, a unit of Time Warner Inc., said. In addition, a third of IM users in general said they send IMs, or text messages, from their mobile phones at least once a week. Last year, only 19 percent said they used mobile instant messaging.
Overall, 38 percent of the more than 4,000 people surveyed said they were sending as many or more IMs than emails, AOL said. Nearly 6 in 10 send instant messages to communicate with colleagues at work, and nearly half to get answers and make business decisions.
A significant number of people, 26 percent, said they wanted live streaming TV on their IM service. Music on demand came in second at 25 percent, followed by video on demand, 21 percent.
One in 5 said they currently use, or would like to use, their IM service to make voice calls to other computers, landlines and mobile phones. Another 12 percent said they would be interested in replacing their primary household phone line with an IM-based Internet telephone service.
I know I can’t live without instant messaging, especially working virtually as I do and traveling so much. That’s why I love my sidekick.
Direct, immediate connection with your friends is a big deal. The popularity of PTT devices emphasizes this as well. I think enhancing this direct connection with continuous presence and other information is the next step and will start coming around soon. Just look at Plazes.
Bon Jovi Live on Sprint

Really? So not only can I watch the concert live, but I can watch it in the Jersey Gardens mall in Elisabeth while I’m buying hairspray and patches for my jean jacket? Have a nice day indeed.
Can you see Bon Jovi live from Washington DC exclusively on a Sprint phone? Yes you can. . No tickets to an upcoming sold-out Bon Jovi concert? No problem. Thanks to Sprint (NYSE: S), Bon Jovi fans across the country can watch live video of the band’s Dec. 17 show, free of additional charge, via Sprint TV(SM) multimedia devices and for Sprint MobiTV subscribers. (Normal Sprint PCS Vision(SM) data access charges will apply.)
This unprecedented broadcast, made available exclusively by Sprint for its customers, is the result of the company’s title sponsorship of Bon Jovi’s “Have a Nice Day” United States’ tour, continuing through March 2006. Using Sprint’s Emmy(R) Award-winning Sprint PCS Multimedia Services, powered by MobiTV, the live video will commence at approximately 8:30pm EST on Sat., Dec. 17, when Bon Jovi takes the stage at the MCI Center in Washington DC. The band’s entire performance, including encores, will be shown on Sprint TV Channel 33 in the Music Video category. Sprint customers will enjoy the full concert from the best seat in the house: anywhere they can use their wireless phone.
Looking away from the “has-been” content a bit, it would be funny if people up in the nosebleed seats used this to get a better view of the action. It would be a nice test of how many concurrent video streams a single Sprint tower can handle.
Someday soon we’ll get first-rate content as mobile streams. Like Apple’s new video selections in the iTunes stoore. Yes, I’m talking about all those Knight Rider episodes. THAT’S worth paying for.
Streaming Your mp3’s to Your PSP

Continuing with the PSP-themed posts…
Is it me, or does the new PSP audio RSS feature just scream for an application that lets you stream your own personal music collection?
Let me lay it out:
- 1. Webserver on your mp3 server hosting an RSS
- 2. Software on your mp3 server that indexes your mp3s (or uses your iTunes XML)
- 3. Web-based interface to choose songs to compose the RSS XML from your library
If you have this, all you need to do from the PSP is:
- 1. Create a link to your music RSS from the RSS app (just have to do this once)
- 2. Connect to your mp3 server with the web browser - pick the songs you want
- 3. Go to the RSS app and stream away
If you set up playlists beforehand, maybe keyed from iTunes playlists, you can make multiple RSS streams and not have to use the web browser as much. What you get essentially is the ability to stream your collection to your PSP from anywhere without downloading anything to the memory stick.
Is there anything out there like this?
Update: I knew it wouldn’t take too long. Keep an eye on “Radiccio”.
Interesting name - named after the rare Orbital EP?
