Scoring an iPhone

Yeah. Me too. At some point I’ll be heading over to the Apple store here on Long Island to wait in line like the rest of the cattle. Maybe there’s no iPhone at all. Maybe we’ll just be led into a room and gassed and wake up on some island where ultra-rich men hunt “The Greatest Game – MAN!”

If that’s the case, I hope AT&T has coverage on the island, since I’m setting up a Flickr stream to send mobile pics to from my soon-to-be-sadly-put-aside N73. You can keep track of it in this post below. Oh and it’s a Clearspring widget if you want to move it somewhere else to keep tabs on it.

Feel free to go over and use our new free developer platform to make cool widgets yourself if you’re down with that kind of thing.

Update (Thurs Night): I did a drive by this evening to see if people were lining up, but there was nothing – just a busy normal night at the apple store with people looking at macbooks and ipods. Is this what it’s like in all non-major-city Apple stores? I guess the 31 year old yuppie demographic is choosing sleep over gadgets.

You better be successful or we don’t know you here at Clearspring. Disgrace and utter shame, I tell you. Kick..punch…throw babies, do what you can!!

How is it, Rich?

So far, awesome. Though it says exchange support and it’s just that bullshit IMAP wrapper. Doesn’t seem to sync contacts or calendar over exchange yet. Boo. Otherwise it’s pretty mind blowing actually.

Cool. I look forward to full review once you’ve been using it for awhile. :)

Also, just to verify, it doesn’t have a JVM on it does it?

Comment by Nate 06.29.07 @ 8:21 pm

No JVM. Mail program is trash for corporate email. I can’t send email. Our SMTP uses TLS auth and it only does SSL it seems. IMAP also doesn’t seem to delete messages right away either – you can’t force a purge. Terrible.

I probably won’t do a full review – there’s tons out there. I might have to even switch back to my nokia and just use the iPhone for testing if I can’t get mail to work or they don’t release a software update.

Hang on. Might have spoken too soon about TLS. Google SMTP seems to work and it’s TLS. It must be a setting in my account.

The IMAP sync still sucks though.
