Since Albert has been up to his ears with Jury Duty and writing a custom billing system for Tomo, he hasn’t had time to post about this. He’s been working with the guys from Buzznet to get Mobile Monday kicked off in LA and it’s finally happening!
It will go from 7-10pm – but if it’s anything like the Mobile Monday I went to in SF, people will hang out late talking to each other. It’s great being around a group of enthusiasts like that. I wish I could be a part of it, but that’s what I get for being stuck out here in Pittsburgh.
The topic is LA Mobile Industry Ecology and will include brief announcements from mobile companies based in Los Angeles and an informal meet-n-greet so you can get to know the LA mobile scene.

Being in this industry for about 1.5 years now as a startup, and building tech in an area none of our employees have worked in before – it’s nice when we get a chance to go to some conferences and meet people facing the same challenges as us. I think the first time we were able to measure ourselves against others was when Brian and I went to GDC in 2004. We met some mobile game companies that have been at it for a while, and we found out that we weren’t the only ones facing things like JVM inconsistency and the challenges of supporting a wide variety of devices. We found out that we chose similar ways as they did to solve them too. That was a nice vote of confidence.
After that we had more opportunities to talk with other companies, and it has become more and more vital in our heads to not feel like we’re in a vacuum. There’s no reason to – people really are friendly in this industry and try to help each other out. I think in the end, we’re all trying to make the age of third-party mobile applications come around, and because of that we treat each other like friends rather than competitors. Mobile Monday is all about that, and I’ sure there will be as good a vibe in LA as there is is SF.
Thanks to Russ for giving it a mention on his site too!
